Burst of Inspiration
Jan. 5th, 2003 07:45 pmSo I've been blocked (gah!) on the as-yet-unnamed sequel to Card XIII because there was a certain wrench in the mix: baby Andrea Maria Edison, daughter of Sally Edison and Andrew Hall. Sally and her new husband die in the first scene of the new book, and the raising of Andrea falls to Hall and his husband, Freiburg. H&F, meanwhile, have problems of their own. Hall's got Tribal blood, very faint, but it's there, and his people in neighboring Andarsin are being oppressed. (Cue Monty Python reference here.) Freiburg, too, has seen the news footage, and both of them want to go off to free the Andasi. So they'll do that, leaving Andrea in the "capable" (yeah, right) hands of her maternal gran, who disapproves heartily of H&F's relationship. The next book will likely be about H&F's trials and tribulations in Andarsin, along with kinswomen Soru Ael Gai and Chel Gai, as well as Chel's wife Mai Ri'san Gai.
But the THIRD book definitely focuses on Andrea. After six years, little Andie's gran will get tired of raising her and pawn her off on a friend with many kids to take care of. Some are her own children; the majority are not. Until H&F return, Andie will do a lot of fighting to stay sane. Even after they come home, she's going to have issues, and working through them is going to hurt. People will feel powerless; this will be the most realistic of the three books, I think, because I'll be drawing on emotions I've already felt. As well, H&F will have to get used to being parents, something completely new for both of them. It's going to be interesting.
Okay, that's all the inspiration I've got.
